Traditional wrappers
Traditional wrappers are also called “Buba and Sokoto”, they’re made of cotton or silk fabric, usually for women; the wrapper is a garment that covers its wearer from head to toe. The colors can be any color, but most often it’s black in Nigeria. A typical dressing procedure begins with two wrappers being worn over one another: a short-sleeved underskirt (called an Ìró) underneath a matching long-sleeved outer robe (known as Bùbá). In some other regions, these garments are reversed – wearing the long sleeve on top and shorter sleeves under – which means there might not always be agreement about which is correctly worn.
Agbada
Agbada is traditionally tailored with rich fabrics such as satin or lace; it’s usually worn at weddings and other ceremonial events. It may have an embroidered design on the back which reflects Nigerian culture. Agbadas are typically long but sometimes made short to accommodate modern fashion trends. They often feature heavily embellished designs around the neckline and sleeves as well as colorful beads sewn onto them from one end to another down the front side hemline (which used to be done only during the festive season).
Isiagu
This is a type of Nigerian dress worn by men as formal attire at the time before European clothing became popular in Nigeria from about 1900 onwards.
